Devon based dairy company, Millbrook Dairy Company scoops best in class at 2022 Virtual Cheese Awards

Devon-based, fast-growing innovative dairy business, Millbrook Dairy Company, has won the Creamery Vintage Cheddar class at this year’s Virtual Cheese Awards with its 1057 Scottish cheddar.

The Virtual Cheese Awards was launched in 2020 during the Covid19 pandemic to promote and celebrate the fantastic British Cheese Industry during a time of great need and when ‘in person’ events were simply not possible to host due to Covid lockdowns.

The 2020 and 2021 awards have attracted entries from 100s of cheesemakers from across the Great British Isles and this year’s award winners were announced this week.

Millbrook’s 1057 is a premium, extra-mature, Scottish Cheddar. Only cheese made from Scottish milk and then expertly made into Scottish Cheddar can be considered for 1057, and the cheese has to meet a stringent and consistent profile - based on the right firmness whilst being ‘open enough’ to give the rugged, crumbly texture.

Kevin Beer, Co-Founder and Director at Millbrook Dairy Company, said:

“We are absolutely delighted with this win.  Our 1057 is a characterful Scottish Cheddar, rich because of where it is from and how it is made. It is aged for at least 14 months to create the delicious flavour and texture. After 14 months the flavour develops into a powerful yet subtle balance between full and creamy and bold and punchy.

“And, there’s no doubt we’re in great company with high profile brands such as Keens Cheddar, Ballylisk, Connage Highland Dairy and Teifi Cheese.”
