‘1057’ Set to Turn Scottish Cheddar on Its Head

NEW from Millbrook Daily Company is a premium, extra-mature, Scottish cheddar brand, 1057, which launches today (Monday 28.8.20).

Named after the auspicious date, when one of the last of the Celtic Kings, King MacBeth lost his head upon a cold stone near the Peel Lumphanan, 1057 is made from rich Scottish milk taken from dairy herds that graze on the banks of the Lochs and in the Glens of Scotland.

Described as ‘deliciously Scottish’ and delivering a true taste of this majestic landscape, 1057 cheddar is hand selected by Millbrook Dairy’s expert cheese graders – who have sourced the very best cheddar that Scotland has to offer.

ONLY cheese made from Scottish milk and then expertly made into Scottish Cheddar can be considered for 1057, and the cheese has to meet a stringent and consistent profile - based on the right firmness whilst being ‘open enough to give the rugged, crumbly textures that consumers love.

Director of Millbrook Dairy Company, Kevin Beer, explains that 1057 is being launched under exclusivity agreements into the Wholesale and Foodservice markets with immediate effect, and it is anticipated that there will be significant demand across local grocery retailers and C-stores across Scotland.  He says:

“There is increasing demand for Scottish cheddar and 1057 is a challenger brand that we believe will go far in the market.  It is authentically Scottish in every sense, and we know from talking to our wholesale partners that demand is there and looks set to grow.

“There is also demand from overseas for Scottish Cheddar – especially the USA - so we anticipate that export will also be a growth market for the brand.

“There is no compromise as to the flavour profile of 1057.  It’s packed with character, rich in flavour due to where it’s come from and how it’s made.  It’s a commanding cheddar that stands out – you could say that it’s ‘fit for a King’ which would be very apt bearing in mind its name”.

There are a number of formats that will be available for export and wholesale:

1057 Black Waxed 2 x 2.5kg

1057 Prepack 12 x 200g

1057 Vacpack 4 x 1.25kg

The Millbrook Dairy Company has seen meteoric growth since its launch in 2019, and has fast become renowned for its expertise in cheese and butter selection, its knowledge of winning flavour profiles, and ability to move fast across day-to-day market variables.

Founded by David Evans and Kevin Beer (formerly with Ornua, North Downs Dairy and Pilgrims Choice Cheese), the team’s combined knowledge is unparalleled in the cheddar market.

1057 is the inaugural brand that will be owned and marketed by Millbrook Dairy Company, which has an ambitious programme of value-add SKU’s that it will be unrolling across its range in the coming months into Wholesale, Export and Grocery.
